A Christmas Card Surprise from the United States
This year, the mail brought me over twenty Christmas cards from the United States. Each card included a holiday recipe — a small piece of the sender’s own kitchen and traditions. Even though I didn’t participate in the exchange this year, the cards arrived as a surprise.
I told Ellen Terpening that we had severe health problems in our family this year. She wanted to arrange a surprise for me and asked others to send cards and recipes. These cards are more than greetings — they show how people far away can still be close when they share warmth and time.
What the cards mean to me:
Connection: every recipe is an invitation to share flavors and memories of the season.
Warmth: the cards brought the scent and kindness of Christmas into my home.
Gratitude: I am deeply grateful to Ellen and to every sender for this beautiful surprise.
A heartfelt thank you to Ellen Terpening for the initiative and to everyone who sent a card. Your kindness is the most beautiful gift of this Christmas.
Maybe we will do a recipe book of Christmas!
Joulukorttiyllätys Yhdysvalloista
Tänä vuonna sain postissa parikymmentä joulukorttia Yhdysvalloista. Jokaisessa kortissa oli jouluinen resepti – kuin pieni pala lähettäjän omasta keittiöstä ja perinteistä. Vaikka en itse osallistunut korttien vaihtoon tänä vuonna, sain ne yllätyksenä.
Kerroin Ellen Terpeningille, että meillä on tänä vuonna ollut terveyspulmia. Hän halusi järjestää minulle yllätyksen ja pyysi muita lähettämään kortteja ja reseptejä. Nuo kortit ovat enemmänkuin tervehdys – ne ovat osoitus siitä, miten kaukana olevat ihmiset voivat olla lähellä, kun jaetaan lämpöä ja aikaa.
Mitä kortit merkitsevät minulle:
Yhteys: jokainen resepti on kutsu jakaa juhlan makuja ja muistoja.
Lämpö: kortit toivat kotiin joulun tuoksun ja lempeyden.
Kiitollisuus: olen syvästi kiitollinen Ellenille ja jokaiselle lähettäjälle tästä kauniista yllätyksestä.
